Description

Our specialised night navigation course will equip you with the skills to find your way in poor visibility. Book on to gain the confidence to find your way through thick fog and cloud, as well as night navigation.

Why Navigate at Night?

There are times when you might have to travel in the dark, but our night navigation course goes beyond these. Imagine walking through thick fog, close to a cliff edge. Try walking through woodland when there are dozens of new tracks on the ground. These poor visibility environments demand accurate micro-navigation skills, so we teach the precision and discipline needed to stay on track.

Who is it for?

This course requires a good foundation in navigation skills. It’s ideal for anyone wanting to develop their skills beyond our Next Step Navigation course. As a minimum, you need to be able to take a bearing on a map and follow it accurately and should be familiar with a wide range of map symbols. If you need to learn the foundations of navigation, take a look at our Introduction to Navigation course instead.

What does Night Navigation involve?

Over the course of the evening, you’ll focus on accurate use of the compass to find your way. We’ll work towards progressively more difficult targets, mainly walking to contour features rather than obvious man-made objects. If you’d like to cover any specific areas, get in touch to discuss what you need.
