Description

Bring the past to life with our fun and active Squire Training programme. Linked to the role of a medieval squire, students develop their understanding in a range of topics throughout the programme. By completing a series of activities, the trainee squires will gain clues to use in the final quest…

Heraldry

All good squires need to understand the symbols behind heraldry. Your students will learn about the purpose and meaning of heraldic arms before designing and producing their own.

Archery

Focus and discipline will be needed in order to shoot for gold on the archery range. Following coaching from our qualified instructors, the children will enjoy friendly games and competition in this ancient sport.

Camp cooking

Squires needed to be good at lighting fires under any conditions. We teach the students how to start a fire using flint and steel as well as having a practice with a bow drill. Once the fire gets going we’ll cook some tasty snacks

Medieval maps

Navigation is a key skill for any budding squire. We teach students about map orientation, keys and basic handrail navigation. That sets them on the right path to find clues for the final quest.

Outdoor learning for the national curriculum

We recognise how hard teachers work so we try to take the pressure off by giving you clear information about how all of our activities map onto the National Curriculum and National Curriculum in Wales, as well as by providing a resource pack for pupils to consolidate and evidence their learning back in the classroom.

Built around your timetable

The entire programme requires around 10 hours but can be split over a number of 2-4 hour sessions. All of the activities can be run on most school grounds or you can come to us. We can even deliver the programme as part of an activity residential break. We’re based in the Wye Valley so our venues are in the Forest of Dean and Brecon Beacons. We’re ideally located for schools in Bristol, Cardiff, Gloucester and Hereford.
